Key Procedures

From nerve pain to disc degeneration, we provide minimally invasive procedures suited to your condition, aiming to support quicker recovery and reduced discomfort.

Endoscopic Spine Surgery

A minimally invasive procedure using a small camera and micro-instruments inserted through an incision of less than 1 cm, commonly used to treat herniated discs, spinal stenosis, and nerve compression.

Ideal for:

  • Slipped Disc
  • Spinal Stenosis
  • Sciatica
  • Leg pain
  • Back pain with degenerative disc disease
  • Spondylolisthesis
  • Cervical and Thoracic Radiculopathy
  • Arm Pain
  • Myelopathy ( hand and leg numbness and tingling )

Benefits:

  • Tiny incision, less scarring
  •
Same-day discharge for most patients
  • Faster return to work and activity

Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (MISS)

MISS encompasses surgical techniques that minimise tissue disruption by avoiding large incisions or extensive muscle damage. These approaches aim to reduce recovery time compared to traditional open surgery.

Ideal for:

  • Slipped discs
  • Leg pain or sciatica
  • Spinal narrowing (stenosis)
  • Spinal Tumor
  • Spinal Fracture

Benefits:

  • Tiny incision, less scarring
  •
Same-day discharge for most patients
  • Faster return to work and activity

Disc Replacement Surgery

This procedure involves replacing a damaged spinal disc with an artificial implant designed to preserve natural motion, as an alternative to spinal fusion. It is often considered for younger, active patients.

Ideal for:

  • Slipped Discs
  • Leg pain or sciatica
  • Spinal narrowing (stenosis)
  • Degenerative Disc Disease

Benefits:

  • Tiny incision, less scarring
  •
Same-day discharge for most patients
  • Faster return to work and activity

Spinal Fusion

Spinal Fusion is a modern approach that combines the stability of traditional spinal fusion with the minimally invasive benefits of spinal endoscopy. This technique allows us to join two or more vertebrae through small incisions, reducing muscle disruption and scarring. It’s typically recommended for conditions like spinal instability, deformities, or chronic pain where controlling motion is essential. Patients can expect less post-op discomfort and a quicker recovery compared to conventional open fusion.

Ideal for:

  • Revision Spinal Surgery
  • Leg pain or sciatica
  • Spinal narrowing (stenosis)
  • Deformity
  • Spondylolisthesis

Benefits:

  • Tiny incision, less scarring
  •
Same-day discharge for most patients
  • Faster return to work and activity

Radiofrequency Ablation

A minimally invasive procedure that applies heat via a specialised needle to interrupt nerve signals responsible for chronic pain. This is performed using endoscopic approaches for precision. The targeted nerves (often facet joint or medial branch nerves) are thermally ablated to reduce or block pain signals without the need for larger incisions.

Ideal for:

  • Facet Joint Arthritis (Cervical or Lumbar)
  • Spinal (sacroiliac) Joint Pain
  • Chronic Neck and Back Pain
  • Arthritic Knee, Hip, Shoulder pain

Benefits:

  • Long-lasting Pain Relief
  • Minimally Invasive & Outpatient-Based
  • Reduced reliance on medications
  • Quick Recovery

Annuloplasty

Annuloplasty is a minimally invasive, outpatient procedure used to treat tears in the outer layer of the spinal disc, known as the annulus fibrosus. Guided by X-ray imaging, a specialised catheter is inserted into the affected disc to deliver controlled heat, typically through radiofrequency or plasma energy. This targeted heat helps to seal micro-tears, cauterise the tiny nerve fibres responsible for transmitting pain, and tighten collagen within the disc wall to enhance its overall stability.

Ideal for:

  • Discogenic Back Pain
  • Early Stage Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Disc Herniations
  • Anuular Tears or Fissures

Benefits:

  • Minimally Invasive with same-day discharge
  • Effective Pain Relief
  • Seals tears and deactivates pain nerves
  • Reduced reliance on medications
  • Quick Recovery

Minimally Invasive Fixation

A technique that stabilises the spine using screws and rods inserted through small incisions, guided by imaging. It avoids traditional open surgery by using tubular retractors and navigation tools to reduce trauma to surrounding tissues.

Ideal for:

  • Spinal fractures (trauma or osteoporosis)
  • Instability from tumours or degenerative conditions
  • Patients who are elderly or medically high-risk

Benefits:

  • Shorter recovery time
  • Less blood loss and muscle damage
  • Smaller scars and reduced infection risk
  • Faster return to mobility

Vertebroplasty

A non-surgical procedure where bone cement is injected into a fractured vertebra to stabilise it and reduce pain. Done under local anaesthesia with minimal downtime.

Ideal for:

  • Osteoporotic spinal compression fractures
  • Cancer-related vertebral fractures
  • Persistent pain despite rest or medication

Benefits:

  • Rapid pain relief
  • Minimally invasive and done as day surgery
  • Improves posture, function, and comfort
  • Reduces reliance on pain medication

What Our Patients Say

We take pride in helping our patients regain mobility, reduce pain, and return to the activities they love. Here’s what some of them have shared about their experience with us:

Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions about heart health, our services, or how we can help? Explore our FAQ section for quick answers to some of the most common inquiries. If you need more information, feel free to reach out to our team.

Are all spine surgeries eligible for a minimally invasive approach?

The suitability of MISS depends on various factors, such as:

  1. Type and complexity of the procedure: More complex surgeries, such as extensive spinal fusions or correction of severe deformities, may require traditional open surgery.
  2. Spinal anatomy: Certain spinal regions or structures may be challenging to reach with small incisions.
  3. Surgeon’s expertise in MISS: Our doctor specialises in MISS, allowing us to address complex cases.
  4. Patient factors: Your overall health, the presence of comorbidities, and your ability to tolerate minimally invasive techniques could affect eligibility.

Patients often resume normal activities sooner after minimally invasive spine surgery, though the timeline varies based on the procedure and individual recovery.

Back and limb pain involve complex pain pathways, and not all cases necessitate surgery. Conservative treatments and pain procedures continue to be suitable options for many spinal conditions.

Consult with Dr Wu to determine the most viable option for your condition.

Cervical decompression is distinct because it focuses on relieving pressure on the spinal canal or nerves while preserving natural spine movement. Unlike fusion procedures, it maintains mobility whenever possible.
